Battle of the Books-
Coached by: Amber Tyson and Elizabeth Pomeroy
What is Battle of the Books?
The Elementary Battle of the Books program is a quiz bowl type competition that has been developed to encourage the reading of wonderful literature.
Who may participate?
Battle of the Books is open to fourth and fifth graders.
How does the Battle of the Books work?
A Battle of the Books team consists of between six and 12 students who compete against other elementary school teams. During the competition, six team members answer questions about the books they have read to earn points. All answers are the title and author of a particular book. The top two school teams in each cluster competition go on to compete in the County finals.
When does Battle of the Books meet?
Battle of the Books meets after school each week to practice. As the competition nears, other practices may be scheduled. The first meeting will be in the Media Center.
What do you do at meetings?
We discuss the summaries of the books as well as clarify any questions you may have about a book. We learn to work as a team by playing games, by practicing and competing against each other here at school. Our team will be well-prepared for the competition. We work hard, but we have a lot of fun!
